“America?”
It begins again with a shiver.
A vibration.
A ripple of a flag waving.
flutter or a flicker.
A pitter - patter / pitter - patter of a heart beating.
It contains a fluctuation, a rhythm, an inherent pattern of a constant pulse.
A constant pumping.
Throbbing.
It is relentless.
American values have been exaggerated and simplified to create popular imagery. An idealized reality. The American myth.
It is communicated and diffused through society naturally. The American myth has no particular venue but infiltrates sections of institutions and media. Reinforced through these institutions and education the American myth becomes a normality. And as Foucault says “The judges of normality are present everywhere.” We are all judges and can be judged. Thus normative power is more powerful then law. By culture, education and normative power we are all a part of the relentless pulse. And as we have assimilated for self preservation we are no longer the origin but a point among others. No longer knowing where to place ourselves. No longer knowing who we are.
